Court drops EC review

The Criminal Court yesterday ruled against launching a judicial review of the Election Commission's role in the botched April 2 general election.
A group of nine senators and activists had asked the court to review the matter. The court found the nine plaintiffs lacked the mandate of an injured party to litigate against the EC. The plaintiffs accused the EC of malfeasance stemming from its failure to ensure honest and fair voting in the April 2 election. They argued the EC was criminally culpable for the ballot's failure. The court said the plaintiffs were not relevant parties to the preparations leading to the ballot. The plaintiffs' lawyer, Warin Thiemjaras, said his clients would appeal the decision, on the grounds that they were indeed an injured party under the provisions of the Constitution.
