Net cafes go mobile with new downloading deal

POPidols, the developer of the Symphony content-management system, has launched a new service, FunLoader, which allows its customers to download licensed digital content to their mobile phones at Internet cafes.
Users can select both Thai and international music downloads produced by companies such as Sony BMG, Universal Music, Warner Music, S.Stac, Bakery Music, Karabow music and more. FunLoader also sells airtime and items for online games and will eventually sell music videos and video on demand. Initially, 30 Internet cafes nationwide will offer download services for the company. POPidols expects to expand that to 1,000 Internet cafes within one year. "We launched the FunLoader service so that interested consumers can easily and conveniently download content without the need to input long, complicated digits," said Pongrapee O Thongsrinoon, chief executive of POPidols. "Moreover, FunLoader will also help promote a legal way of acquiring digital content. We aim to make FunLoader the centre of authorised digital entertainment content." POPidols' breakthrough product was Symphony, a licensed content-management system that is used both locally and internationally. Its experience in providing service for globally recognised content via Symphony has helped the company learn how to overcome some of the hurdles associated with digital content distribution. That includes how to deal with a growing variety of digital formats, the proliferation of mobile and other digital entertainment devices and customers' demands to sample products before purchasing. These issues can result in high customer dissatisfaction, high abandonment rates, confusion, and customers turning to illegally published content. To help address these problems, POPidols developed FunLoader. With FunLoader, digital content problems become things of the past, Pongrapee said. Customers can go to Internet cafes authorised to provide the FunLoader service. Before committing to a purchase, they can find out if their mobile phone or other device, such as an MP3 player, will support the downloads. The service supports all popular current content including monotone, polytone, and true tone ringtones, screen savers, wallpaper and games. In the future it will be able to support full-track songs. Besides the wide range of music from various production companies, POPidols sells content such as INN News and Vithita animation, the licence holder of comic books "Kai-Hua-Roh" and "Ma-ha-sa-nook" as well as the movie "Noo Hin".
