Chiang Mai U. to present honorary doctorates to HM the King

Chiang Mai University will present honorary doctorates in 14 disciplines to His Majesty the King to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the King's accession to the throne.

Pongsak Ungasith, the rector of the university, said he had been informed by the Office of His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary that His Majesty would accept the degrees, but a presentation date had yet to be fixed. The 14 disciplines include business administration, accounting, law, medical science, veterinary science, architecture, art, education and public health.

Meanwhile the royal exhibition is still drawing huge crowds.

Although yesterday marked the 16th day of the exhibition, hundreds of thousands of people visited it at Impact Muang Thong Thani, where it runs until today. Since its launch on June 4, more than five million people have been. A further one million are expected on the last day today, to celebrate the life and work of His Majesty the King, said Government Spokesman Surapong Suebwonglee.

More than 10,000 orders for VCDs and books featuring exhibits have been received, he said. Surapong said all the income generated from them would be presented to His Majesty.
