Australia 2 - England 1

As the World Cup is about to kick off tonight in Germany, Australian and British tourists fought on Friday in Pattaya over which country would win the champion, leaving the Briton suffer from head wounds.

Pattaya police found Gretar Valdearsson, 38, a Briton, laid bleeding from his head on a pedestrian path in Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district on Friday at about 2.30am.

He was then rushed to a nearby hospital.

A Spanish tourist, Nicolas Marsei, 19, told police that Valdearsson was drinking in a bar where a broadcast of previous World Cups was being aired.

Two Britons drinking in the bar claimed that England would win the upcoming tournament and that Australia would definitely be knocked out in the first round.

That comment started the quarrel between the two Britons and Valdearsson. The Britons, accord¬ing to Marsei, hit Valdearsson's head with a bottle of beer. The hit wounded the Australian at the head and he fainted. The Britons then escaped from the scene.
