Weerapat through to quarters

[TENNIS] The unfancied Weerapat Doakmaiklee remain-ed the lone local hope in the US$10,000 (Bt390,000) LTAT Bangkok Open F 1 ITF Men's Futures Circuit tournament after he stopped the run of a Swedish qualifier in the second round yesterday.
The 18-year-old wild card entrant used his persistent baseline game to beat Daniel Danilovic 6-4 6-2 and make it to his third ITF quarter-final. Danilovic knocked out top seed Stephen Mitchel of South Africa in his earlier match. After reaching his first quarter-final in Phuket last year, Weerapat has made it to the final eight for the second consecutive week. He reached the quarter-final in an ITF Masters event in Jakarta last week after improving his game under new coach Sruang Chanthaurai. His countryman Kirati Siributwong lost 6-1 6-2 to South Korean Kim Hyung-kwon. Meanwhile in Surbiton, England, former champion Tamarine Tanasugarn beat South African Natalie Grandin to reach the second round of the $25,000 (Bt975,000) Surbiton Trophy tournament on Tuesday.
