EC official fights court decision

A senior Election Commission (EC) official filed a lawsuit with the Central Administrative Court yesterday, seeking to revoke the Supreme Court decision not to nominate new EC commissioners.

Peerapong Pairin, deputy director of the Election Commission's Policy and Planning Office, accused the Supreme Court of issuing an illegal resolution not to nominate EC commissioners, as proposed by Senate Speaker Suchon Chaleekrua.

He said in the suit that the judges' decision on May 31 violated Article 138 (2) of the charter. Their resolution had deprived him of the chance to register as an EC candidate and caused him damage as under Articles 9 (1) and 42 of the Administrative Court Act. It also allegedly deprived him of his rights, in accordance to Articles 28 and 62 of the Constitution. The court will decide later whether to accept the case. - The Nation
