Exhibition turnout set to exceed 6 million

More than six million people are expected to visit the 17-day Grand Exhibition of the King at the Impact Exhibition and Convention Centre, Muang Thong Thani, Caretaker Government Spokesman Surapong Suebwong-lee said yesterday.
With over four million people having visited the exhibition between May 26 and yesterday, Surapong said the last five days would certainly reach beyond the targeted six million visitors to the exhibition, which marks the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne. From tomorrow to June 11, the public can place orders for a Bt299 book showing the grand exhibition's displays, or a Bt199 one-hour CD showing the event in brief. There is also an extended six-hour CD version, Surapong said. The proceeds after expenses will be presented to His Majesty and spent on charitable activities. Tomorrow at 7.19pm, the public is also invited to join a candlelight ceremony to express their well wishes to His Majesty in front of the Challenger 1 Building. Everyone is asked to wear a yellow shirt. On June 11 from 8.30pm to 9pm, Caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will preside over another candlelight ceremony and will be joined by Thai artists and the public at the Impact Exhibition and Convention Centre. Surapong said the government had narrowed down the choice of venue for the year- long version of the grand exhibition to either the Agriculture Ministry's museum or the compound of the Science and Technology Museum in Pathum Thani.
