Rejection of NBC appeal upheld

The Supreme Administrative Court yesterday upheld a lower court's rejection of an appeal seeking to overturn the decision to cancel the 2004 selection process for the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
The appeal was lodged by seven NBC nominees, including their leader Thongchai Kuasakul. The seven nominees argued for the overturn of the selection cancellation on grounds that it unlawfully denied them gainful employment. The high court ruled that it was in agreement with the lower court about the cancellation, however. The cancellation was prompted by litigation between failed NBC candidate Pramut Sutabutr and the Office of the Permanent Secretary for the PM's Office, which was put in charge of the selection process. The seven nominees were not a party to the litigation, and hence had no right to appeal, the high court said.
