New learning centre to open in metro

Metro Mall Development Co Ltd, the operator of retail space in subway stations, is to open the Ratchada Learning Centre at Ratchadaphisek station, which will comprise a range of music and performance schools.
"This [facility] will support the 40,000 students and 25 institutions based within a five-kilometre radius of the station," said Phakphong Sunthornsarathoon, marketing director of the company. The Ratchada metro mall covers 1,200 square metres and nearly all of the space will be allocated to the schools. The centre is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter. The company has already opened two metro malls, at Sukhumvit and Phaholyothin stations. - The Nation. ----------------------------------------------------------- Charoen launches new shrimp product Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc is looking to boost sales with its latest product "cooked head-on, shell-on shrimp". Suphat Sritanatorn, vice president for marketing, said the product had been created to serve changing consumer tastes, using shrimp from the pro-biotic closed-farming system. This meets export safety standards, certified good manufacturing practice, hazard analysis, and critical control point and traceability standards. "As the world's biggest shrimp producer, we want to offer Thai people only the very highest quality foods," he said. - The Nation. ----------------------------------------------------------- Trial begins against TPI founder The Criminal Court on Monday began legal proceedings against Thai Petrochemical Industry Plc founder Prachai Leophairatana and three other people charged of violating securities law by pre-disclosing sensitive news on a listed company's share price to the public. The plaintiff and the defendants are scheduled to present their initial cases to the court on September 1. From October 18, the plaintiff will present 36 witnesses and the defendants 24 witnesses. After hearing the court was to hear the case, Prachai said he had been bullied by caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and the Finance Ministry. "I did nothing wrong," he said. Chantra Purnariksha, director-general of the department, said the fair, which was held from May 17-21, drew 1,001 exhibitors with 1,903 booths and 19,807 visitors. Of those, local businessmen accounted for 15,570 and foreign traders 4,237. She said the value of export deals achieved reached Bt2.41 billion, with the most popular goods being ready-to-eat foods, fresh vegetables and fruit, rice products, and agricultural machinery and technology. - The Nation.
