LATE NEWS
Shin probe hangs on nominee issue

The Commercial Registration Department has started questioning individuals involved in the Temasek Holdings-Shin Corp deal, but says the investigation will take more time if individuals and companies turn out to be nominees.

Orajit Singkalavanich, director-general of the department, said the probe involved many issues and it was therefore impossible to set a completion date.

If proved to be nominees, the companies would be fined and the transactions nullified. - The Nation.

Minibus U-turn

Chiang Mai's local government hopes to turn around its loss-making public minibus service by reducing the timetable and eventually privatising the service.

The 25-bus service has been losing about Bt2 million a month, although daily revenue has risen from Bt22,000 to Bt25,000, said Pornchai Jitnawasatian, Chiang Mai's deputy mayor.

A proposed two-hour reduction to the timetable is expected to save 7 to 8 per cent on operating costs. The new timetable will run from 6am to 8pm instead of 10pm.

The local administration has also increased its revenue from advertising by private companies on the buses. - The Nation.

New Tumi launch

Minor Corp Plc, the local distributor of Tumi travel accessories, has launched its new Tumi-Ducati collection aimed at high-income customers.

The suitcase and bag collection is the result of a licensing agreement between the US brand and Ducati, the Italian manufacturer of high-performance motorcycles.

It comprises eight racy black-and-red travel and accessory bags featuring both companies' logos. The collection includes wheeled luggage, backpacks, messenger bags, and a duffel bag with wheels.

Tumi has been diversifying its product range by adding new categories to its travel, brief case and day-bag collections. Tumi will sponsor the Ducati racing team and develop products for motorcycle enthusiasts. - The Nation.
