High speed online used to increase safety : Police

The Metropolitan Police Bureau is using a high speed online network in its safety zone project to view surveillance camera footage promptly across Bangkok, a senior officer said on Monday.

The project has been implemented before the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne, said city chief Lt General Wiroj Chantarangsi, who presided over the "digital age city police use of electronic eyes to ensure safety" project's launch yesterday.

Under the scheme, thousands of cameras have been installed in 120 sites within the city's 88 police station zones, Wiroj said.

Police in small stations and at the bureau headquarters will use a highspeed web link, sponsored by True Internet and Law Enforcement Technology Solutions, to watch footage, the senior officer stated.

"The CCTV footage can also be used as evidence and will help in crime prevention," he said, urging the public to remain vigilant in their communities.
