Blasts 'no deterrent'

The Interior Ministry believes the two explosions on Rajdamnoen Avenue were the work of pranksters and will not affect visitor confidence.
However, security has been stepped up after two light explosions at 1am on Friday because of the number of royal motorcades the boulevard will host during the month of royal celebrations. The bombs were too weak to have killed anyone, and no one was injured, the authorities said. "It shouldn't have occurred," said Interior Minister Kongsak Wantana. "Everyone should be expressing their loyalty. These people do not deserve to live in our country. They probably did it for a little excitement, but we shall have to wait to see further reports by the investigators." Meanwhile the capital's governor, Apirak Kosayodhin, mobilised the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) police and other security staff to inspect the area, where 31 arches have been installed for the celebration. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious incidents. Apirak urged street vendors not to trade along the road until the celebrations were finished. The Nation
