Short circuit blamed for blasts

Short circuits were blamed for two minor explosions in the Rajdamnoen Avenue area early yesterday morning.

There were no reports of injuries in either explosion. Officers at Nang Lerng station said they were investigating the blasts. There were no witnesses to the first, which occurred at a commemorative arch over the avenue. The arch should be fully repaired by today, police said.

The second blast occurred at a bus stop near a police welfare centre for women and children.

Watchmen at the adjacent Agriculture Land Reform Office said police stationed at the welfare quickly extinguished a small fire that ensued.

Meanwhile, a pipe bomb was found on a train being repaired at Hua Lamphong station yesterday morning.

The home-made bomb was found in the overhead vent of toilet on a train that travels the Bangkok-Lop Buri route.
