Vuttirong off to a fine start

[MUAY THAI] Thai super lightweight Vuttirong Pamaree yesterday made a good start in the preliminary round of the World Amateur Muaythai Champion-ships at The Mall Bang Kapi, earning the Thai squad its first victory by defeating Kairolla Amekou of Kazakhstan.
Fighting in class A, Vuttirong showed original Thai fighting skills before over 2,000 local and foreign enthusiasts, pulverising his rival with a combination of elbows, knees and high kicks and winning by a decision. In the super lightweight category, Zatout Mchdi of France beat Zhukoaski Yury of Belarus. Featherweight Geoff Ahipene of New Zealand defeated Michel Anwer of Lebanon, while in the 86kg class, Eduardo of Brazil defeated Martin Neveling of South Africa and Mathew Red of Australia overwhelmed Ben Dang Kum of India. In the women's events, featherweight Saichon Taichio of Thailand beat Rima Sidhu of the United States in a four-round contest but her compatriot Maliwan Sopar lost to Milja Heino of Finland in the 54kg bantamweight category. Lightweight Julia Semenova of Russia beat India's Bidhyarani Dui, Australian Shari Ranger defeated Marie Keane of Ireland and Sandra Bastian of Canada defeated Nathalie Zoukatas of Sweden.
