Boonsak enters the quarters

[BADMINTON] Thai ace Boonsak Ponsana stormed into the quarter-finals of the US$250,000 Indonesia Open in Surabaya, defeating Chan Yan Kit in the second round yesterday.
The former Thailand Open champion had a comfortable first-round match against Malaysian Pei Wee Chung, winning 21-14 21-7. However, the world No 19 struggled hard in the second round against Hong Kong's Chan 22-20 23-21. Elsewhere, team-mate Poompat Sapkulchananart suffered an early exit after going down to Chinese Chen Yu 21-14 21-12 in the first round. Another Thai, Peerasak Wiriyaphadung-pong, came from behind to win 15-21 21-16 21-14 over Indonesian Ahmad Rifai in the first round but found world and Athens Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia too strong in the second, losing 21-15 21-14. In the men's doubles, Songpol Anukrit-tayawan and Nattapol Nakthong cruised into the second round after staging a 21-14 21-19 victory over Taiwan's Hseieh Yu Shing and Chen Chih Hao in the first round. They beat Aussie Juergen Koch and German Dharma Gunawi 21-15 22-11 in the second round. Sudket Praphakamol and Pattapol Ngernsrisuk struggled to beat China's Shen Yo and He Hanbin 21-12 22-24 21-11 in the first round, but went down to Indonesians Trihus Harjanto and Suprianto Bambang 21-13 21-17.
