Tamarine into second round
Top seed Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand toppled Germany's Sarah Raab 6-1 6-1 to book a spot in the second round of a US$25,000 (Bt975,000) Chinese Women's Circuit tournament in Tianjin, China, yesterday.
Fresh from winning a doubles trophy in Beijing last week, Tamarine is playing her final tournament in Asia before heading for her favourite grass court season in England next week. Compatriot Napaporn Tongsalee, a semi-finalist in Beijing last week, could not continue her fine form, losing her first round match to China's Hao Jie 6-1 6-3. She said stomach problem hampered her movement. In the first round of the doubles, Napaporn and Taiwan's Chuang Chia-jung beat Hao and Ren Jing of China 6-4 6-1. Fourth-seeded Montinee Tangphong and Thassaha Vittayaviroj went down to Ji Chun-mei and Sun Shen-nan of China 6-0 6-3.
