Muay Thai tournament to kick off

[MUAY THAI] The Muay Thai World Championships kick off today at the Mall Bangkapi's MCC Hall with amateur fighters from 80 countries joining the special event in celebration of the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne.

The opening ceremony was held yesterday and HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana was the guest of honour.

The tournament will be televised world-wide and as well as the daily bouts, there will also be a Muay Thai Expo and a muay Thai aerobics competition.

The organisers are expecting many special guests at the tournament, even some visiting royalty who are in Thailand for His Majesty the King's celebrations. The tournament promises to be a showcase of Thailand's traditional martial art.

The event was split into men's and women's events and the competition will start at 2pm from today to June 7.
