PAD takes its fight upcountry

The People's Alliance for Democracy has filed a criminal lawsuit at Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Court charging the Election Commission with dereliction of duty relating to the botched April 2 election.

The litigation is designed to try the EC in Bangkok as well as upcountry in order to highlight its culpability, PAD leader Somkiart Pongpaiboon said yesterday.

"The upcoming Nakhon Ratchasima trial will focus on outlining how the EC failed to ensure honest and fair balloting, which does not duplicate with myriad cases being tried in Bangkok," he said.

The key charges include the omission to record the ballot numbers distributed to individual voters and the illegal display of candidates' photographs inside the balloting stations, he said.

The court battle will expose how the EC managed the electoral process to favour the Thai Rak Thai Party, he said.
