Two sent to jail in bidding scam

Two men have been sent to jail for colluding in the bidding for a Bt29 million machine procurement contract for the Chaiyaphum Provincial Administrative Organisation, police said on Tuesday.

Department of Special Investigation (DSI) spokesman Col Piyawat Kingket said the Criminal Court sentenced private company employees Pratheung Prasithiyaphan and Preecha Khomthong to six months in prison last Wednesday for breach of the Offences Relating to the Submission of Bids to Government Agencies Act 1999.

He said an undercover DSI officer sent to the bidding at the provincial hall was given Bt40,000 by the bid organisers to not submit his proposal.

The court initially imposed oneyear jail terms on each of the defendants but later reduced it by half because their confessions were useful to the case, Piyawat said. The court also confiscated the Bt40,000 cash seized during the arrest.
