Consolations for local stars

Thai athletes won three consolation silver medals as the curtain came down on the Asian Grand Prix series at the Baburao Sanas ground in Pune, India, on Friday.
The three-leg series started in Bangkok on May 18, moved on to Bangalore, India, on May 22 and ended in Pune, where only seven Thais qualified. SEA Games 100-metre gold medallist Watchara Sorndee picked up the first silver medal for Thailand in his pet event. Chokechai Jirasakrujee won second silver medal in the men's high jump and SEA Games 200m bronze medallist Juthamas Thaworncharoen finished second. Thais shine Thai mixed doubles pair Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam took a step closer to winning their first title of the year by making the final in the US$120,000 Philippine Open in Manila yesterday. The second seeds and world No 12 thrashed joint fifth seeds Muhamad Rizal and Gresya Polii of Indonesia 21-16 21-16 in their semi-final. The Thai pair go up against brother and sister Kennevic and Kennie Asuncion in today's final.
