Boonsak prevails

[BADMINTON] The Ponsana siblings enjoyed mixed fortunes in the Philippine Open, with Boonsak storming into the semi-finals and his younger sister Salakjit suffering a straight-game loss to Indonesian Fransisca Ratnasari.

Boonsak, world No 19 and a semi-finalist in the Athens Olympic Games, crushed James Chua of Malaysia 21-8 21-12 yesterday.

The former Thailand Open champion will next play Andrew Smith of England in today's semi-finals. Team-mate Poompat Sapkulchananart fell victim to Malaysian Sairul Amar Ayob 23-21 10-21 18-21.

In the men's doubles, Sudket Prapakamol and Patapol Ngernsrisuk trounced Canadians Kyle Holoboff and Richard Liang 21-13 21-4. The Thai duo will take on Indonesian-born Albertus Susanto Njoto and Yohan Hadikusumo Wiratama of Hong Kong in today's semi-finals.
