PM sues Sondhi and 3 senators

Four critics of caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra have been asked to report to police as a result of the premier filing defamation lawsuits against them, senior police said yesterday.

Police Maj-General Winai Thongsong said a Thai Rak Thai Party legal team filed a complaint on behalf of Thaksin against Sondhi Limthongkul and three senators, Manoonkrit Roopkachorn, Chirmsak Pinthong and Pichate Pattanachote.

Thaksin charged the four critics with groundless allegations over his involvement in exploiting government policies to benefit his family business when they spoke at anti-Thaksin rallies from February to April.

The critics would have to report to police during June 7-8, Winai said.

Chirmsak said he was not afraid of any ramifications over the allegations he aired. "I did it to protect the interest of the country," he said.
