THAI, Amex platinum card

Thai Airways International plans to attract more premium passengers in an effort to increase sales and profit.
THAI vice president for commercial affairs Vasing Kittikul said one way in which the airline hoped to woo both high-end Thais and foreigners was by introducing new marketing campaigns and promotions. The latest one is the THAI-American Express Platinum Card, which was launched yesterday.Vasing said the card would be a new platform for offering privileges like membership in the Royal Orchid Plus frequent-flyer programme. Cardhold-ers receive one mile for every Bt25 they spend on the card. Moreover, cardholders get 10,000 bonus Royal Orchid Plus miles the first time they use the card and again when they take their first international flight on THAI. Pamela Artway, American Express's president for Japan, the Asia-Pacific and Australia, said Thailand was one of the most important markets for her company, as it was rapidly growing. She would not say how many new members American Express hoped to attract through its tie-in with THAI. Vasing said THAI had 30,000 gold members in the Kingdom and that they were the target group for the card. He said the airline would complete renovating its aircraft fleet this year.
