Girls' nights out popular

In the past, Thai women were taught to be conservative and stay in at night. But now university students and career women are often seen out together enjoying the nightlife.
Advertising agency Far East DDB surveyed the attitudes and perceptions of 200 women aged 16-25 towards night-clubbing.
The study showed how getting ready for a night out on the town was often seen as important as for other social events. This meant finding clothes, putting on makeup, even getting hair done professionally. About 80 per cent of those surveyed chose to dress "just right" for a night out - not too covered up, but not daring to wear revealing clothes such as see-through or strapless tops. Most women were willing to spend Bt300-Bt500 for a night out. Some were willing to pay up to Bt1,000. Most of the respondents agreed that going out at night was a good way to relax. But they also had concerns for their health and were afraid of losing control from drinking liquor or taking drugs, which could lead them to being abused sexually. The worst fear was that they could end up with an unexpected pregnancy. But the survey found that only 15 per cent carry condoms with them.
