Thai held for trying to smuggling diesel to Thailand

The Kedah Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry Enforcement Division arrested a Thai man trying to smuggle 200 litres of diesel to Thailand at the Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint.
The 34-yearold Thai was arrested as he was driving across the border at 10.10 am on Wednesday. The enforcement officers found four modified tanks containing 200 litres of diesel beneath the undercarriage of the truck he was driving. Division assistant operation coordinator Mazlan Ismail said the man, who had been making frequent visits to the border the past few days, had been under surveillance. "He had been travelling in and out of the country several times a day," he told a press conference. The diesel was found in two of the four modified tanks. Mazlan said initial investigation showed that the man bought diesel at several fuel stations near the border to prevent from being caught by the Malaysian authority. The case has been classified under the Supply Control Act 1961 which carries a maximum RM15,000 in fine. The Star/Asia News Network
