PTT enters ICT fray with joint venture
PTT Plc and four of its units plan a new venture, PTT ICT Solutions Ltd, to provide intra-group information and communication technology services.The four units are PTT Exploration and Production Plc, PTT Chemical Plc, Thai Oil Plc, and Aromatics (Thailand) Plc. Each of the five companies will invest Bt30 million and own 20 per cent of PTT ICT, PTT said in a statement. PTT ICT's registered capital will be Bt150 million, with 15 million shares, PTT said. PTT ICT will provide services inclusive of hardware, software, an infrastructure network, communication and data centres, the statement said. PTT ICT will initially serve only PTT and its units, and look later on for other clients. Before this, PTT and its affiliates did their IT work separately. - The Nation. -------------------------------------------------------------- BUSINESS DELEGATION: Northern Irish trade mission coming A 14-member business delegation from 12 Northern Irish companies and the University of Ulster will be in Thailand from May 27 to 30 to develop trade and technology links and partnerships with local companies and institutions of higher education. The trip was organised by Invest Northern Ireland (Invest NI), a UK government-backed regional economic development agency. The group includes senior executives from many of Northern Ireland's leading companies across a broad range of industries, including information technology, medical devices, environmental engineering and services, biotechnology and food processing. It is among the best-represented business delegations Northern Ireland has sent to Thailand. Leading the delegation will be Mervyn McCall, director of Mivan, an international specialist contractor with substantial business interests in the Bangkok urban area. The company is supplying its "System Formwork" as part of a £300-million (Bt21.7 billion) joint venture, building modern low-cost housing in Bangkok. - The Nation. -------------------------------------------------------------- HOT-ROLLED STEEL: US revokes anti-dumping measures The US Commerce Department has recently cancelled its anti-dumping measures against hot-rolled steel exports from Thailand, according to the Foreign Trade Department. The US agency's announcement on May 17 brings back to normal US tariffs on exports by Sahaviriya Steel Plc, Nakhonthai Strip Mill and G Steel. Nakhonthai Strip Mill and G Steel did not ship their products to the US during the anti-dumping duty period. Rachane Potjanasuntorn, director-general of the Foreign Trade Department, said yesterday that the cancellation should prompt Thai exporters to explore the US market. - The Nation.
