SET boss may leave this week

Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) president Kittiratt Na Ranong might resign his position with effect from Saturday, an official from the exchange said yesterday.
Kittiratt recently said he would resign from the post once stock in Thai Beverage Plc began trading on the Singapore Exchange, in a show of responsibility for the failure of a plan to have the company list on the SET. The planned listing was derailed by a strong local protest. Thailand's best-selling brewer and alcohol producer expects its stock to debut in Singapore next Tuesday. SET chairman Vijit Supinit said the subject of Kittiratt's resignation was not on the agenda for today's meeting of the SET's board of governors. "If the matter were to be considered [at the meeting], it would be our primary concern and Kittiratt would have proposed it himself," he said. A stockbroker, who asked not to be named, said if Kittiratt were to resign, the prime candidate to succeed him would be Suthep Peetakanont, chairman of Capital Nomura Securities. Suthep had worked well with the Finance Ministry while he was chairman of the Association of Securities Companies, the broker said.
