Prommin calls for charges

Prommin Lertsuridej, secretary-general to the prime minister, called yesterday for three senior Democrat Party officials to be tried for allegedly tarnishing his reputation - by wrongfully linking him to the alleged funding of small parties to contest the April 2 election.

In a hearing yesterday, Prommin singled out Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, his secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban and spokesman Ong-art Klamapaiboon as defendants.

He cited a Democrat Party press conference on March 16 as plaintiff evidence. At the press conference, the four defendants alleged he was involved in the electoral scam, he said.

"The subsequent investigation by the Election Commission-appointed panel has not named me as a suspect," he said.

The Criminal Court has said it will rule on June 23 whether the case merits judicial review.
