Burmese wins title in Rayong

[BADMINTON] Burma's Lwin Aung stunned the top-seeded Peerasak Wiriyaphadungpong of Thailand 21-17 18-21 21-14 to win his maiden Thailand Masters Professional Championships title after the men's single final in Rayong yesterday.

In the second last tournament of the four-leg circuit, Thai No 4 Peerasak had to be content with the runner-up position after he missed a number of shots to allow Lwin, who played poorly in the last two legs, to pocket the Bt34,000 in prize money plus get 1,500 points for his efforts.

In the men's doubles, Jakkrapan Thanatheeratham teamed up with Thitipong Lapo to upset the third-seeded pair of Somsak Muksikkasem and Wiphop Sansanaweerakul 21-10 21-15. Jakkrapan and Thitipong received Bt26,000 and accumulated 1,500 points.

The fourth leg of the circuit will take place in Chiang Mai from July 13-16. After four legs of the competition the Grand Masters - the final tournament in the four-leg meet - will be held at the Hua Mark Indoor Stadium with the qualifying players vying for a share of Bt1 million.
