Two MPs 'are Democrats'

Democrat Party deputy spokesman Apichart Sakdiset yesterday lodged a complaint against the Thai Rak Thai Party after discovering some of its members were actually registered Democrats.

After checking the Election Commission's website, Apichart noted two Democrat members were listed there as Thai Rak Thai personnel. Neither has ever applied for Thai Rak Thai membership, he claimed.

Piyawat Ketkaew and Prachote Siriwat have been Democrat members since 2001. Piyawat is also Apichart's own assistant, the deputy spokesman said.

"We have to file a complaint to protect their rights, otherwise they might lose those [rights] in case the party fields both to run for the next election," he said. Apichart demanded an EC investigation into the alleged discrepancies.
