Army apologises for tardy rescue of teachers

The Army has expressed regret and apologised to the families of two teachers who were taken hostage and brutally beaten in Narathiwati's Rangae district on Friday, said Army CommanderinChief Sonthi Boonyaratklin.
He condemned the attack on Juling Pangamoon and Sirinart Tavornsuk, saying it was an inhumane and showed no respect to teachers whose duties were to instruct their children. "We would like to express our regret and apologise to families of both teachers that we could not rescue them in time," he said. "The attacks were inhumane particularly on teachers who were considered the second parents to the children. Moreover, they are women." He asked for Thais, particularly those in three southernmost provinces, to understand the current situation. "The incident was instigated by a group of people who wanted to cause disunity in the country," Sonthi said. The army has set up a team to investigate why the rescue for the two teachers was so delayed and could not help them in time, he added. He said he asked Army Region 4 to conclude its investigation into the incident as soon as possible. The Nation
