Student Network plans rally at EC

The Student Network is to hold a rally outside the Election Commission (EC) headquarters on Friday to demand the resignation of the three remaining commissioners.

"As they have shown no sign of resigning, the Student Network will stage a big rally on May 26 to pressure them," said Somchote Meechana, president of the Ramkhamhaeng University Students' Organisation (Ruso) and representative of the network.

He said the three commissioners had lost their legitimacy.

The network is a grouping of Ruso, the Student Federation of Thailand and the National Institute of Development Administration's Student Network for Democracy (Nida-SNF).

Sant Donsri, leader of Nida-SNF, said the network had no intention of using violence and was sorry for the clashes with EC supporters over the past two days.

He said Nida-SNF would publish documents to raise public awareness of the student movement.

"We welcome different views and encourage freedom of expression in constructive ways," he said.

Sant also said he had asked EC supporters to avoid violence against his group and asked the police to prevent any that might occur at the demonstration.
