Old man takes on students at poll commission headquarters

Another scuffle broke out yesterday at the Election Commission's headquarters, between an old man and members of the Student Federation of Thailand.

The students are vocal critics of the commission.

Yesterday the students were agitating for a meeting with the three remaining EC members, planning to present them with what the protesters said were handfuls of "parasites" in protest against their resistance to quitting, but the three commissioners were not in.

The students hung a banner at the entrance to the building proclaiming: "Announcement - the EC's office is closed temporarily to pave way for the new EC.

EC supporters can offer their moral support for the EC at Thai Rak Thai Party headquarters.''

An old man walking past the group roundly condemned them and angry protesters punched him in the face.

Police broke the brawl up and helped the man to safety at the rear of the commission's headquarters.
