TOT gets new hardware

The board of TOT Plc has approved the purchase of equipment worth Bt975 million that will enable the agency to expand its share of the broadband Internet market.
Chairman Sathit Limpongpan said TOT would purchase the equipment and install a 2,000-kilometre cable to cover areas currently inaccessible by its current broadband Internet network. The purchase will enable TOT to serve an additional 167,500 new broadband Internet users. It plans to reach a total of 300,000 broadband subscribers by the end of this year, up from the existing 200,000. TOT will use a special procurement process for the equipment, sending invitation letters to those suppliers that made bids for previous broadband-equipment purchases. Among them are Huawei Technologies, Alcatel, Ericsson, Siemens and NEC. After examining the details of their technical proposals, the state agency will conduct an e-auction to procure the equipment. The winner of the bidding should be announced within two months of the e-auction. Telecom Reporters The Nation
