Miss Universe to move here as ambassador for Singha beer

Natalie Glebova, has beer lovers foaming at the mouth.
The world's most beautiful woman, Miss Universe Natalie Glebova, will make Thailand, where the Canadian was crowned last July, her temporary home base courtesy of beer brewer Singha Corp.

Natalie will work with the beverage company as one of its three corporate brand ambassadors until the end of the year after she passes on her crown to her successor.

World-class golfer Vijay Singh has also signed on to help promote the company in international markets, while local tennis ace Paradon Srichaphan is expected to strike a deal to be the third ambassador.

The value of the contracts was not disclosed.

"All I can say is that I can't reveal it because it's the superstar rate but the deals are part of our marketing budget this year of Bt100 million," advertising manager Piti Bhirombhakdi told reporters yesterday.

Natalie, who appeared at the press conference to receive her employee ID tag with No 5000 on it, said she had been impressed with Singha from the beginning, as it was a main sponsor of the beauty pageant.

The blue-eyed brunette graduated with a bachelor's in commerce from Ryeson University in Canada two years ago.

Her duty as an ambassador is to promote the brand locally and abroad as well as to appear as a presenter in all media.

"I've already prepared by learning Thai and I'll take an intensive course in Thai culture," said Natalie, who is known for giving the best "wai" greeting among foreign beauty queens.

She said she does not fear for her image.

"I'm the brand ambassador and I'm promoting the brand Singha, which is a solid and respectable company. I'm not promoting alcohol in particular."

Natalie may also be seen endorsing products that have no conflict of interest with her work at Singha.

One of the possible jobs is to be a presenter for Thailand's BSC swimwear, which is designing the official swimsuit for Miss Universe contestants this year.

The other brand ambassador, Singh, who is a frequent visitor here, will promote the brand in relation to his sport.

He will wear apparel embossed with the Singha logo in every international golf tournament.

Singh will also lend his support to Thai professional golfers and train them to enter the global sports arena.

The golfer's appointment is in line with Singha's long-term commitment to promote local athletic talent at every level including youth, amateur and pro.
