Apirak denies city officials urged to raise funds for Democrat Party

Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin yesterday denied allegations a staff member demanded city districts raise campaign funds for the next general election.

Apirak said allegations that Bangkok's 50 district directors were required to raise Bt500,000 each for campaign funds were false.

He was responding to claims made by former Thai Rak Thai Bangkok MP Wattana Sengpairoh. Wattana accused an adviser to the governor of delivering the fund-raising order, saying the money was to be used by the Democrats in the next ballot.

"We couldn't force city districts to seek money for the Democrat Party because the election is the business of political parties," Apirak said.
