Suits urged over exams

Students, parents and universities can step forward and demand compensation from relevant authorities for all the havoc over the new university-admission system, Law Society of Thailand secretary-general Sombat Wongkamhaeng said yesterday.
Sombat said the National Institute of Education Testing Service (NIETS), the Office of Higher Education Commission (OHEC) and the Education Ministry would become defendants in such lawsuits."The relevant authorities have apparently introduced the new system while their equipment, implementation plans and staffs are not ready. This is the negligence that has caused damage to others," he said. He said damaged parties could come forward and lodge a complaint with the Administrative Court to demand compensation. Sombat said the Law Society of Thailand would be willing to help if anyone needed legal assistance about the university-admission suit. The university-admission schedule has been delayed this year because NIETS failed to announce the O-Net and A-Net scores on time. Even though OHEC has stepped in to help, the problems linger.
