Sipa joins in promotion effort

The Software Industry Promotion Agency (Sipa) will set up the Bangkok Digital Content Centre to support the digital content industry and promote it to international markets.
Manoo Ordeedolchest, Sipa president, said that the Bangkok Digital Content Centre will be set up in the next several months. It will be an infrastructure centre, a lab-testing centre for such things as games and mobile phones, and also an industry meeting and research and development centre which will help local developers utilise new information technology and develop products and services to international standards for domestic and international markets. Sipa also plans to create a cluster between government agencies, universities, developers and the private sector to develop national content to appeal to international markets. To create the Thailand Digital Content network, the agency has signed a memorandum of understanding with Hong Kong, Korea and Malaysia to promote the digital content industry in the region. The corporation will also gather local digital content businesses in each country to promote the business in other regions such as Europe and the United States. However, Sipa also plans to ask for support from the Thai government to set up international branch offices as centres to receive orders and promote Thai digital content and software globally in the next four years. Thailand now has more than 700 digital content developers or more than 200 digital content companies. It is expected there will be 1,000 digital content developers by the end of this year which will be able to compete internationally.
