London's Lord Mayor comes to town

The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman David Brewer will visit Thailand from Monday to Thursday.
Brewer will have an audience with HM the King and will meet political leaders, including the leader of the caretaker government, Deputy Prime Minister Chidchai Vanasatidya, Finance Minister Thanong Bidaya, Foreign Minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon and Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin. Brewer will also meet Bank of Thailand Governor Pridiyathorn Devakula, Securities Exchange Commission secretary-general Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala and Stock Exchange of Thailand chairman Vijit Supinit. Brewer will open the International Financial Services of London seminar, which will be held jointly by the British Embassy and the Ministry of Finance at the Plaza Athenee Hotel on Wednesday. The seminar will cover public-private partnerships, and infrastructure and financing. Brewer will also speak at a luncheon of the British Chamber of Commerce of Thailand on Tuesday. "Thailand and the UK share much in common," Brewer said prior to his trip. "Our markets are important for each other." Bilateral trade is worth some US$4,452 million (Bt168.3 billion), of which nearly three-quarters is Thai exports to the UK. "I hope ... to boost awareness of the City of London as the world's leading financial centre and to encourage Thailand to make more use of the expertise that we are willing to share."
