THAI tempts more tourists

Thai Airways International Plc (THAI) has launched its Grand Season Campaign 2006, aimed at boosting tourist numbers during this year's low season, which runs until September.
The national carrier is offering a collection of new packages intended not only to attract more low-season tourists, but also to dilute the seasonality of travel to Thailand, making the country a year-round destination. It also aims to attract foreign visitors to Thailand during celebrations for the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne. The packages include special tourist activities and offer meetings and convention incentives, travel awards and Bangkok stopovers to encourage transit visitors to spend the night. THAI's executive vice president for commercial affairs, Vasing Kittikul, said one of the most important promotions is the Thailand Homecoming Package, to encourage Thais living abroad to visit their homes and join in the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the King's accession. The offer runs from today to November 30 and includes two nights' accommodation with breakfast and airport transfers. It also offers one free round-trip domestic flight with 20kg of excess baggage allowance and other benefits. Another package, called Bangkok Treasure Paradise, offers a Bangkok stopover with a special deal from King Power duty free shops. The special rate is available from today until December 31, for THAI passengers with connecting flights at Bangkok International Airport, and includes a 10-per-cent discount for duty free shopping at King Power. Royal Orchid Holidays is also offering Bangkok Stopover packages for transit passengers, starting at US$30 (Bt1,130), until the end of September. They include one night's accommodation with breakfast and airport transfers. The Thailand Grand Meeting Promotion, in cooperation with the Thailand Conventions and Exhibition Bureau, aims to boost regional passenger arrivals in Thailand by offering competitive meeting and incentive packages. They are available until the end of September. The Tourism Authority of Thailand has also joined with the Beijing Tourism Administration to offer the Bangkok and Beijing, Double Your Holiday Pleasure promotion. It aims to increase the number of European and American visitors to both countries by combining Beijing and Bangkok as dual destinations. THAI and Air China are participating in the promotion, which includes a tour programme and cooperative pricing and sales activities. Suchat Sritama The Nation
