Fireman killed in shooting

A fire-fighter was killed and a hospital employee injured in separate shootings yesterday, a day after a bomb blast killed two teachers and a soldier in Pattani.

Yusaree Yusoh, 38, was found dead along the side of Ban Lukka-Ban Duemayoo Street in Waeng district of Narathiwat.

His two-year-old daughter was sitting beside him crying when police arrived at the scene.

They said two men on a motorbike rode up behind Yusaree while he was on his way to work and shot him before speeding away. Police suspect the attackers were Muslim militants.

In Pattani's Kok Pho district, hospital worker Pornsak Na Song-kram, 43, was shot while riding his motorbike to work. Two men on a motorbike approached him from behind and one opened fire with a .38 pistol, hitting Pornsak in his right shoulder.

Police believed the attackers were also Muslim militants.

On Monday, two teachers and a soldier were killed, and 16 people injured by a bomb blast at a teashop that also destroyed a vehicle.
