The Thai Rak Thai party has changed its campaign motto and adjusted its logo as it gears up for the next election, deputy spokesman Pimuk Simaroj said yesterday.
Although the election date has yet to be set, Thai Rak Thai decided to go ahead with the new motto and background picture behind the spokesman's podium in the press room of the party's headquarters.
"Facing with a smile all types of political obstacles to continue resolving the country's and people's problems", was the new message of the party put at the top of the new background, Pimuk said.
In order to avoid controversy, the party has chosen the word "Smile" as a catchword in the quest for votes.
The previous motto and background set for the April 2 election had a smiling party leader Thaksin Shinawatra with the words "Thank you to everyone who goes to vote, keeping up our democratic system and letting our country go forward".
The latest version shows Thaksin making a wai during his speech. The PM - damned by opponents as 'Square Face' after a popular song about him during the height of the pre-poll rallies - said yesterday the message was largely his idea.
The deputy spokesman said the party wanted to convey to the public that even though they faced problems, they would fight on.
The party's policies would follow soon after being approved by key party members, he said.
