Sondhi, newspaper face charges

Police yesterday recommended pursuing lese majeste charges against anti-Thaksin campaigner Sondhi Limthongkul and Kom Chad Luek newspaper.

Public prosecutors yesterday set June 8 as the date it would reveal its decision on whether to pursue action against them.

The charges relate to comments made by Sondhi at a People's Alliance for Democracy rally in March of this year and a report by the daily.

Both Sondhi and the editor of Kom Chad Luek, Chaleaw Kongtuk, reported to prosecutorsyesterday.

Sondhi denied making the comments, saying he had been misquoted.

The newspaper's report on Sondhi's remarks led hundreds of protesters from the pro-government Caravan of the Poor to besiege the Nation Multimedia Group office complex in late March. The complex is home to Kom Chad Luek and sister publications including The Nation. - The Nation
