PAD greets verdict on EC

The People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) leaders yesterday issued a statement supporting the "advice" from the three top courts that the Election Commission resigns to allow the judicial branch to oversee the next election to ensure it is clean and fair.
Sondhi Limthongkul said the group thanked the three top courts for the decision, which it believed would help break the political deadlock. "There are many other political locks we believe the courts will help unlock so that Thailand steps away from a political monopoly,'' he said. As for Premier Thaksin Shinawatra contesting the next election, Chamlong Srimuang, one of the PAD leaders, said since Thaksin had created the political crisis, he should not become prime minister again. Somkiat Pongpaiboon said Thaksin's return would cause a wider rift and increase conflicts. "There has never been a prime minister who has divided the country like this one,'' he said.
