Man rams two thieves

A 60-year-old businessman rammed two men on a motorcycle after they snatched a gold necklace from a woman in Bangkok's Bang Kapi district yesterday morning, police said.

The two men - Winai Pheukhom, 25, and Santi Klachan, 38 - were injured after being knocked off their bike and held until police arrived and arrested them at 9am yesterday in Soi Ramkhamhaeng 1. The stolen necklace was returned, Lt-Colonel Booncherd Srithong from Hua Mak police station said. Thankful Home Pro shop assistant Pattama Khamthong, 26, told police the two men snatched her gold necklace from in front of Home Pro Sukhapibal 3 branch.

Boonyong Maneesakul, the businessman who disrupted the thieves' plan, said he was driving with his sister in his 300E Mercedes Benz sedan and saw Pattama being robbed.

He watched as the robbers took off on a motorbike. "I chased them and signalled to them to stop, but they just sped up, so I decided to ram them with my car . . . they fell off the bike. Then I helped other people hold them and just waited until police arrived," Boonyong said.
