EC sued for criminal charges

Democrat Party executive Thaworn Senniam on Wednesday filed additional charges in the ongoing criminal lawsuit against the Election Commission relating to its management of the April 2 vote.
The additional charges include the unfair scheduling of the election day and the failure to ensure the voter's privacy as guaranteed by the Constitution.
To back up the charges, Thaworn cited the Constitution Court verdict issued on Monday.
The Criminal Court has yet to rule on cause for the judicial review.
In a related development, a group of Songkhla residents filed a police complaint accusing EC chairman Vasana Puemlarp of committing lese majeste.
The complaint said Vasana had contradicted the April 25 statement of His Majesty the King.
According to news reports, Vasana defended the unopposed race in the April 2 election as democratic.
In the highlypublicised Royal statement, the monarch deemed a oneparty race to be undemocratic.
The residents submitted the news reports as evidence.
Songkhla's Hat Yai police station has the jurisdiction to investigate the matter.
