Juniors rout India

Sixth-seeded Thailand enjoyed a stylish start by beating India 3-0 in their Junior Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Qualifying Zone tie at the Muang Thong Thani Tennis Center yesterday.
Drawn in Group 3 which also included third-seeded China and Malaysia, Thailand had two victories from the singles matches when Noppawan Lertcheewakarn downed Poojashree Venkatesh 6-3 6-1 and Nicha Lertpitaksinchai ousted Sweta Solanki 6-3 6-3 in the first round-robin matches. Noppawan and Nicha later teamed up in the doubles to beat Venkatesh and Solanki 6-4 6-2 to grab the third point for Thailand. But a heavy task awaits the local girls today when they play China, who also thrashed Malaysia yesterday. A total of 16 nations divided into four groups are taking part in the event. The top two finishers from each pool will advance into the knockout stages and four winners will be eligible for September's Word Group tie in Barcelona.
