Election D-Day
The Constitution Court is scheduled to make a ruling on the validity of the April 2 election today. The judges will deliver their opinions verbally, before issuing a joint court verdict. The deliberation followed complaints filed by several groups who claim the April 2 election was unconstitutional. His Majesty the King last month advised that the Constitution, Administrative and Supreme courts should be involved in an effort to solve the political deadlock. Suthep to file charges
Democrat Party secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban will today file malfeasance charges against the Election Commission with the Criminal Court. Despite the pressure the EC is under, they are continuing their work. On Monday, the EC will endorse the elected senators. The EC are expected to consider giving red or yellow cards to certain senators-elect who made speeches at the People's Alliance for Democracy rallies. Suchon meets advisers
Senate Speaker Suchon Chaleekrua is expected to meet his advisers today to discuss the possible legal implications the Constitution Court's ruling on the April 2 elections. Suchon will also advise the Constitution Court to choose a new court president after judge Udomsak Nitimontri agreed to leave his role at the Administrative Court to serve as a Constitution Court judge. Udomsak's resignation was approved by the Administrative Court last week. The Senate speaker will also appoint a sub-committee to verify the National Counter Corruption Commission candidates' qualifications. A selection committee will today choose 18 candidates and send a list of names to the senate who will select the nine commissioners.
