Local people yesterday flocked to see what is believed to be a meteorite at a house in Phak Hai district.
The object, which weighs nearly 50 kilograms, is now being kept at the house of Sanit Pluangtook. Farmer Chan Khantong said he saw the object shooting down from the sky into the paddy field at around 9am. "It struck the earth right ahead of my farming truck and rolled a few hundreds of metres further," he said. Chan said he couldn't touch the item at first because it was too hot and it was giving off smoke. He collected it in the evening and took it to Sanit's house. "We will keep this for our children to see," Chan added. Meanwhile, two men were struck and killed by lightning in Bang Pahan district yesterday afternoon. Tuanthong Yasadet, 33, and Tob Chattong, 50, died while seeking shelter under trees during a storm. The men had gone fishing with two other friends when they all sought shelter from the storm under the trees, said Lt-Colonel Prasopsuk Bansutthee of Bang Pahan district. They were grilling fish and eating when the lightning struck. Tuanthong and Thom died instantly, while the two other men were thrown several metres away but suffered no serious injuries, Prasopsuk said.
