Oil spill clean-up underway

Mopping-up operations in the Gulf of Thailand were underway yesterday to contain a 15,000-litre oil spill in front of Alliance Refining Co's (ARC) port. The spill came from the tanker "CP 34", owned by C&P Co Ltd, and occurred on Thursday night as the tanker was being loaded in Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate.

Marine Department official Surachai Burapanonthachai said the spill had affected nearby ports.

He said ARC officials were trying to clear the spillage and Marine Department officials were also helping.

"Rain may delay the process," he said yesterday afternoon.
